Dün akşam takı kutuma bakarken puantiyeli bir kumaş parçası gördüm ve başladım onu tasarlamaya. Hemen bir nazarlık kondurdum kenarına sonra gerisi de geldi. Bugün de Boğaziçi t-shirt'üm ile kombinledim nasıl olmuş ?

KÜBRA İLE İKİ GÜN ÜST ÜSTE GÖRÜŞMEMİZ: JEAN KOMBİN/ SECOND-IN-A-ROW: KUBRA IN JEANS

Bugün çok tesadüfi olarak dün de çektiğim Kübra ile karşılaştık. Ben de geleneğimize sadık kalarak hemen çektim onu tabiki. Ben de jean parçaları kullanmayı çok seviyorum günlük hayatta Kübra her zamanki gibi biraz vintage biraz da yeni trendleri kullanarak bugün karşıma çıktı.

Today, I saw Kübra again which was a huge coincidence because I have photographed her just yesterday ! Anyways, I am loyal to our tradition so I shot her again. She will became a full-time model for me I guess :) She combined jean elements with vintage items which I really liked about her today. 

So, thanks Kübra :)

İKİNCİ DEFA: EMMY- KIRMIZI ŞAPKA/ ONE MORE TIME: EMMY- THE RED BERET

Bugün Emmy ile Ayfer Bartu Candan'ın verdiği Sosyal Anthropoloji dersinde görüştük. Bu arada söylemeden geçemeyeceğim Anthropoloji derslerimizdeki konu sıramızı değiştirdik ve iki haftadır NEOLIBERAL ISTANBUL adlı başlık üzerinde konuşuyoruz. Ne kadar takip ediyorsunuz bilemem ama Boğaziçi Üniversitesi'nde Güney Kampüs'e  eski Çarşı Kantinin hemen girişine bir Starbucks açıldı. Elbette, okulumuzda bir çok kişi bu duruma çok tepkiliydi çünkü Boğaziçi Üniversitesi bir devlet okulu ve "bir alışveriş merkezi muamelesi yapılarak" devlete ait bir alanın özelleştirilmesi gerçekten de tepki gösterilecek bir durumdu. Uzun lafın kısası işgal hala devam ediyor ve biz de Anthropoloji dersimizde İstanbul'un boş alanlarının sürekli özelleştirilmesi üzerine konuşuyoruz ki okulumuzdaki Starbucks açılışıyla oldukça alakalı. Starbucks dışarıda alışveriş merkezlerinde, caddelerde olabilir fakat Starbucks'ın bir devlet okulunda olması gerçekten çok çarpıcı ve yanlış okulumuzdaki birçok kişiye göre. Sanırım bu post'u moda adına değilde biraz da farkındalık yaratıp modayı araç olarak kullanarak yazdığım bir ileti oldu.

Today I have seen Emmy in my Social Anthropology class which professor Ayfer Bartu Candan lectures on. I knew that she was going to be  leaving soon to Sweden, so I wanted to photograph her again. 

As Emmy mentioned a little about me that she really liked the Social Anthropology class as I did. This year our lectures are very influential in creating an awareness about the world.

Anyways, my point was that in our Soical Anthropology class mainly because of the occupation of Starbucks we have started a topic called NEOLIBERAL ISTANBUL. In this particular subject we are talking about gentrification projects which intend to upscale the city.

 The life of urban poor with the public housing projects in Bezirganbahçe has been a huge transformation in the sense that the poor is getting poorer because of the increasing fixed costs of public housing projects. The upscaling and elimination of shanty towns( gecekondu) is of course a good thing but it turns out to have adverse effects on urban poor. 

It is striking that there are  similarities between urban poor and rich in the contributing effects of the public housing projects and gated communities . Firstly, both of the parties are immobile in city. Why? Because for the upper middle classes the norm became the gated communities. Gated communities are all inclusive as in entertainment, shopping malls, supermarkets, schools that it creates a new definition of urbanism. The  people living in gated communities are very immobile in city as in new generations doesn't know the city after crossing the walls of the residence or compound. So, the middle class families living in gated communities became immobile in the city and urbanism came to define in a different way which we are not familiar of. Futhermore, for the urban poor gecekondu was a familiar area where especially women were very active in gardening etc. But in Bezirganbahçe, women are afraid to go out because the environment around them is not familiar anymore so their actions are limited. Secondly, urban poor is always accussed of the gecekondu but actually gated communities are also contributing to environmental disasters as in water consumption, and cutting of the forests for construction purposes and to advertise it as to live in a green area is ironic. The contribution to environmental disasters of gated communities are some what unseen.

I really want to make long story short: the Starbucks which opened in Boğaziçi University ocuppied by students, right now. Because, we are studying at a public university and just like the gentricifation projects the public areas are privatized in front of our eyes. Thats why many students and professors are opposing to the opening of Starbucks.

I have told you about all of this because I wanted to use my interest in fashion to create an awareness about the world so today fashion became an instrument sort of.
